A $5,000 donation from the Fort Macleod Community Initiatives Association last week pushed the outdoor pool fund closer to its goal.

The association’s donation brought the total to $176,631.55.

The fund-raising campaign has a goal of $250,000.

“As seen in many years past, Fort Macleod makes extraordinary things happen when they set their mind to it,” said Meranda Day Chief, administrative assistant with the Town of Fort Macleod.

In addition to the cash donations, the town has received in-kind donations towards the mechanical building totalling $28,886.93 from Economy Cashway Lumber, Delcan Building Materials, South Country Doors, Forma Steel and Structural Truss Systems Ltd.

A donor wall at the outdoor pool will list every person or business that donates.

Donations over $500 will earn a family swim pass for the first year of the new pool’s operation. A 2019 family pass had a value of $140.

The project includes demolishing the existing pool, tennis courts and skate park and supplying and installing a new six-lane 25-meter pool, lazy river area, one-meter diving board, beach entry and mechanical room.

Other features include a water umbrella, dump buckets, spray jets, 10-foot climbing wall, artifical turf and hydrojets.

There are several elements to the town’s fund-raising campaign.

Naming rights for the competitive six-lane pool are available for a contribution of $150,000.

Naming rights for the leisure pool are available for a donation of $100,000.

Lazy river naming rights are available for a donation of $95,000.

Businesses, organizations and individuals can put their name on the climbing wall for a donation of $25,000.

The various water spray features can be named for a donation of $15,000.

Contributions will be recognized on a donor’s wall that will be erected at the pool according to the following levels of contribution: diamond, $50,000 or more; platinum, $20,000 to $49,999; gold, $10,000 to $19,999; silver, $5,000 to $9,999; and friend, $150 to $4,999.

Donations can be sent to the Town of Fort Macleod, P.O. Box 1420, Fort Macleod, T0L 0Z0.

Donations over $20 are eligible for a tax receipt.
