Johnny Summers and his jazzy octet are Perfectly Frank at the Empress

Johnny Summers will return to the Empress Theatre with his eight-piece band and their Perfectly Frank Christmas show on Friday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m.

In the spirit of legendary crooner Frank Sinatra, Johnny Summers and his Little Big Band will perform classic Christmas favourites along with his signature jazz tunes at the Empress Theatre.

Summers and his Little Big Band perform their Perfectly Frank Christmas show on Friday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m.

Summers and his band will take the audience through original arrangements of classics such as Baby It’s Cold Outside, Zat You, Santa Claus? and Fly Me to the Moon.

Summers is a Calgary-based jazz singer, trumpet player, composer and arranger who performs a diverse selection of music including jazz, soul, funk, rock, blues and gospel.

Summers started the Calgary Jazz Orchestra in 2004 and is artistic director of the 17-piece band.

The Johnny Summers Little Big Band is a subset of the larger orchestra, consisting of trumpets, saxophones, trombone, piano, bass and drums.

As a recording artist, Summers has released seven albums and is the recipient of 13 Global Music Awards, two Gospel Music Awards and numerous nominations.

His seventh studio album, Baker’s Dozen: Celebrating Chet Baker, has won three Global Music Awards for best instrumentalist, best album and best group.

Summers has studied and played in Vancouver, Toronto, New York, New Orleans and beyond.

The Empress Theatre is  operating under the province’s Restrictions Exemption Program. Prior to entering the theatre, patrons must show proof of full vaccination and photo identification. Masks must be worn to enter the theatre.

The concession and bar will be open at this show.
