New ownership for Fort Pharmacy

Foothills Centre executive director Val Campbell accepted a $50,000 donation Wednesday from Brent Feyter of the Feyter Group of Companies.

An ownership transition is under way at long-time Fort Macleod business, Fort Pharmacy.

Pharmacists Zak Murakami and Dustin Reimer bought Fort Pharmacy from Ken and Cathie Harris, continuing a tradition of customer service that spans eight decades in Fort Macleod.

Zak Murakami earned a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy in 2012 and has owned Stokes Pharmacy since 2014.

Dustin Reimer earned a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy in 2015 and has worked in Claresholm since then.

The two pharmacists are excited for the opportunity to run their own pharmacy in a small community like Fort Macleod, where they can develop relationships with their customers.

“In my experience, I have found pharmacy practice in a smaller community to be engaging and professionally satisfying,” Dustin explained. “Without the same resources as an urban center patients may ask more of their physicians, nurses and pharmacists. I am happy to help however I can.”

Zak and Dustin plan to offer patient care that is specific to each individual in order to meet the needs and requirements for that person’s health.

Fort Macleod residents can look forward to being served by friendly staff who will go above and beyond to provide a pleasant, positive

experience.

With a pharmacist on staff who has prescribing authorization, Fort Pharmacy can make travel health a seamless process at one location, once travel opens up after the pandemic. Prescribing authority adds an extra tool so staff can work with patients to optimize their health care.

Fort Pharmacy services include pharmacy, blister packaging, access to compounding/custom medication, travel consultation and vaccinations, chronic medication management and regular vaccinations.

At present, Fort Pharmacy is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Starting May 1, Fort Pharmacy will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

In addition to Zak and Dustin, customers will be served by pharmacists Ken and Shannon, pharmacy assistant Lucinda, front store manager Michelle and front service clerks Carrie and Lydia.

Fort Pharmacy is located at 240 24th St. Contact the pharmacy at 403-553-3844.
