Nominations open for municipal elections

It’s not too early to start thinking about running for municipal office in Fort Macleod and district.

Beginning Jan. 4, nominations could be filed for town and municipal district council or school board.

Nomination day is officially Sept. 20, with the municipal election to follow on Monday, Oct. 16.

Director of finance Kris Holbeck is returning officer for the Town of Fort Macleod.

Associate superintendent of business services Jeff Perry is returning officer for Livingstone Range School Division.

Chief administrative officer Derrick Krizsan is returning officer for the MD of Willow Creek.

Nomination forms can be picked up at the G.R. Davis Administration Building in Fort Macleod and the MD of Willow Creek office in Claresholm.

The provincial government has a candidate’s guide to running for municipal office available at www.ab.ca.

The guide outlines qualifications to become a candidate, roles and responsibilities of an elected official, the time commitment, candidate contributions and expenses and campaigning.

A similar guide for potential trustees is available on the Alberta Education Web site.
