Irene was predeceased by her beloved husband Mike; her daughter Marie; her parents Joseph and Julia Liszkay; as well as several in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Irene was born in Mankota, Sask. Her family moved to Brooks and Irene worked on the family farm while getting an education. She met our father in 1948. Four years later they married and soon started a family.

After raising five children Irene worked in the Lethbridge service industry for over 12 years before she and Dad decided to purchase a motel in Fort Macleod in 1982. Operating this motel was hard work but Mom loved to talk to the patrons and listen to their stories about where they had come from and where they were going to. After Dad passed away in 2001 Mom decided to retire in 2003. She has kept many friendships from her years at the motel.

Irene joined The Royal Canadian Legion in 2002. She was a member of the Legion for 19 years and she served on the Ladies Auxiliary for 10 of those years. She was also a member of Senior Citizens Welcome Mat. Irene loved to watch the Blue Jays play ball and she would cheer on Canada in the curling finals. She loved to crochet but her favourite activity was to play crib with her friends from the Legion and Senior Citizens Welcome Mat. To know Irene was to like Irene. She formed many bonds and friendships throughout her life.

A celebration of life will be held at Eden’s Funeral Home, 2424 Fifth Ave. Fort Macleod on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021. A viewing will be held at 1 p.m. with a service to follow at 2 p.m. Family and friends may gather at the Royal Canadian Legion in Fort Macleod after the services.
