RCMP lay manslaughter charge in Fort Macleod death

One man is dead and another man is in custody following an assault that turned deadly early Saturday morning outside the Circle K convenience store in Fort Macleod.

Fort Macleod RCMP responded about 1 a.m. Saturday to a complaint of an assault in progress in the parking lot of the store on Seventh Avenue.

Const. Lauren Mowbray of Alberta RCMP media relations said in a news release two men were engaged in the altercation.

“During the altercation, the adult male victim hit his head on the curb,” Mowbray said.

The 39-year-old man was taken to hospital where he died as the result of his injuries.

Rodney Glen Small Legs Jr., 36, of the Tsuut’ina First Nation, is charged with one count of manslaughter.

Small Legs remains in custody until he appears in Fort Macleod provincial court at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 27.

The RCMP major crimes unit is in charge of the investigation.
