It was an F.P. Walshe Flyers showdown in the bronze medal match of a Junior B boys basketball tournament in Fort Macleod.
The two Flyers teams battled to decide third place in the six-team tournament, with Flyers 2 emerging with 51-30 win.
F.P. Walshe 1 started the tournament in Pool B with Matthew Halton Hawks and Willow Creek Composite Cobras.
Pool A was made up of F.P. Walshe 2, Coalhurst Trojans and Livingstone Sabres.
In the first game of the tournament, played at W.A. Day school, F.P. Walshe 2 edged Matthew Halton Hawks 35-30.
The Hawks led 17-16 at halftime but the Flyers surged ahead 30-18 in the third quarter and held off a fourth quarter rally for the win.
Dawson Wallin scored 10 points for the Flyers, Roper Peterson scored eight, Nate Poytress had five, and Dorian McDougall, Ryder Peterson and Gabe Traspe each had four.
In the next game of the tournament at W.A. Day, F.P. Walshe 1 edged Coalhurst Trojans 43-40.
Coalhurst took a 20-16 lead in the first half but the Flyers battled back to win.
Jaxxon Woods scored 16 points for the Flyers and Trayson Van Huigenbos had 15.
Thatcher Gouchie and Nathan Gurney each had four, Averi Saunders and Dawson Wallin each had two
Willow Creek Cobras beat F.P. Walshe 2 42-38 in the third game of the day.
It was a tight game all the way, with Willow Creek leading 22-21 at halftime
Roper Peterson had 10 points for the Flyers, Dawson Wallin had eight, Nate Poytress had six, Gabe Trask, Ryder Peterson and Dorian McDougall each had four and Trayson Van Huigenbos had two.
Livingstone Sabres were sharp in the fourth game of the day, beating F.P. Walshe 1 48-16.
The Sabres hacked their way to a 24-4 halftime lead and rolled to the win.
Pryce Schneider had six points for the Flyers, Nathan Gurney had four and Logan Boot, Thatcher Gouchie and Bennett O’Connor had two each.
In other action on Friday, Willow Creek beat Matthew Halton 41-13 and Livingstone beat Coalhurst 44-16.
The third-place teams in each pool met in the fifth-place playoff game Saturday, with Matthew Halton beating Coalhurst 44-35.
The two F.P. Walshe teams placed second in their pools and met in the third-place playoff, with F.P. Walshe 2 winning 51-30.
Gabe Traspe had 25 points for Flyers 2, Ryder Peterson had 12, Nate Poytress had eight, and Dorian McDougall had six.
Jaxxon Woods and Trayson Van Huigenbos each had 12 points for F.P. Walshe 1, Nathan Gurney had four and Averi Saunders had two.
In the championship game, Livingstone Sabres beat Willow Creek Composite Cobras.
