F.P. Walshe Flyers fourth in Blue and White

F.P. Walshe Flyers managed a fourth-place finish in their annual Blue and White senior boys basketball tournament.

The Flyers won one game and lost two in the two-day, eight-team tournament at F.P. Walshe school.

Flyers 81 Blades 50

The Flyers tipped off Friday night with an 81-50 win over Nobleford Blades.

The Flyers led 25-16 in the first quarter and 38-32 at halftime.

Saxon Fox scored 15 points for the Flyers, Matthew Penson had 13, and Theo McDougall scored 12.

Mathias Rippin scored nine, John Pineda had eight, Ben Oosterwijk and CJ Buenafe each had seven,  Lance Felicen and Teran Broderson each had four and Brady Weasel Fat had three.

In other first round action, Chinook JV Coyotes beat Livingstone Sabres 78-66, McCoy JV Cowboys beat Picture Butte Kings 99-56, and Catholic Central JV Cougars beat W.R. Myers JV Rebels 74-62.

Cougars 69 Flyers 53

The victory over Nobleford sent the Flyers into a semifinal match against Catholic Central JV Cougars.

The Cougars took a 26-13 lead in the opening quarter and were in front 38-26 at halftime.

The Cougars extended their lead to 62-44 in the third quarter on their way to a 69-53 win.

Saxon Fox led the Flyers with 17 points.

Theo McDougall had eight points for the Flyers, CJ Buenafe and Matthew Penson each had seven, Jared Gurney had six, and John Pineda, Lance Felicen, Ben Oosterwijk and Mathias Rippin each had two.

In the other semifinal game, Chinook JV Coyotes edged McCoy JV Colts 78-72

Colts 78 Flyers 42

The loss to the Cougars sent the Flyers to the third-place layoff, where they met McCoy JV Colts on Saturday night.

McCoy opened a 33-17 lead at halftime and never looked back in a 78-42 victory.

Matthew Penson had 13 points, Ben Oosterwijk scored 11 for the Flyers and CJ Buenafe had 10.

Mathias Rippin had four, and John Pineda and Saxon Fox each had two.

In the championship game, Chinook coyotes beat Catholic Central Cougars 80-59.

Consolation side

On the consolation side, Livingstone Sabres edged Picture Butte Kings 49-48 and W.R. Myers JV Rebels downed Nobleford Blades 58-32.

In the playoff for seventh place, Picture Butte beat Nobleford 91-46.
