Fort Macleod U9 Mavericks to host tournament

Fort Macleod’s two U9 hockey teams will host a weekend tournament.

In addition to the two Fort Macleod teams, tournament participants are Pincher Creek Chinooks, Foremost Black, Foremost Orange, Magrath Chiefs, Raymond Knights and Cardston Thunder.

Fort Macleod Blue Mavericks kick off the tournament at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27 against Pincher Creek Chinooks.

Fort Macleod Red Mavericks are next on the ice at 7:15 p.m. Friday to take on Cardston Thunder.

Play resumes at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 with six games on tap.

The Blue Mavericks play Magrath Chiefs at 1 p.m., followed by the Red Mavericks taking on Foremost Orange at 2:15 p.m.

The playoff round gets under way at 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 29.

Fort Macleod Mavericks Red are Asaan Yellowhorn, Wesley Volk, Jovin Sharma, Ava Ward, Cohen Vanee, Markus Day Chief, Hudson Brauer, Joseph Delaney, Hunter Oberkirsh, Eli Eagle Plume and Hayden Leader.

Head coach is Rick Sharma and assistant coaches ar Johnny Vanee and Mike Volk. Manager is Caitlyn Leader.

The Fort Macleod Blue Mavericks are Nate Wooldrik, Hudson Provost, Tate Roelofsen, Greyson Vandervalk, Neveah Provost, Lincoln Bredeweg, Grayson Feyter, Memphis Van Herk, Karter Oudshoorn, Lacey Gerlock, Nash Smith, Waysen Heavy Runner and Adrian Semyrozum.

Head coach is Evert Roelofsen and assistance coaches are Eric Boot and Josh Van Herk. Manager is Desiray Vandervalk.

In a weekend game, the Blue Mavericks fell 7-6 to the visiting Magrath Chiefs .Magrath took a 2-0 lead in the first period and were in front 4-3 at the end of the second period.

Lincoln Bredeweg scored five goals and assisted on another for the Mavericks.

Tate Roelofsen scored the other Fort Macleod goal and Grayson Feyter picked up an assist.

Nate Wooldrik made 27 saves in goal for Fort Macleod.
