Fort Macleod Volleyball League declares champions

MIKE BOURASSA, GAZETTE CONTRIBUTOR

This past weekend the Fort Macleod Volleyball Club hosted the league’s post season tournament in which all 14 league teams participated.

The competition and the matches were great and the good times even better.

After round-robin play on Friday night and Saturday morning the playoffs began at 1 p.m.

The A side final featured a showdown between two of the top teams in the league: Brayden Van Driesten’s team vs Jeff Perry’s team.

Both teams battled hard with Van Driesten winning the first set 25-21, Perry winning the second set 25-16 and Van Driesten winning the deciding set 15-11.

Congratulations to both teams on a great A division final match.

The B side final saw a rematch of the 2019 B division final with the Bambi Smith team taking on the Mike Bourassa team.

The match was very close but the Bourassa team prevailed in straight sets to capture the B division Mary Halbert Memorial Trophy.

Congratulations to both the Van Driesten and Bourassa teams on a job well done in winning their division championships.

The Fort Macleod Volleyball Club would like to thank all the players, officials and the staff at W.A. Day school who helped make this season and the pre and post season tournaments run smoothly.

A special thanks to Paige Knauf for running and maintaining the league’s new Web site this year.

Hope to see everyone sign up again in the fall to play in the leagues 40th year.
