July 15, 1945 — March 6, 2023
Kenny Luther passed away peacefully Monday, March 6, 2023 in Fort Macleod at the Community Support Beds where he was cared for with love and courtesy by the staff. Thank you, Dr. Beekman (friend and neighbour), Sydney, Andrew and Gail for the respect and attentiveness you gave our Ken while in your care.
Kenny was born and raised in Cardston. He caused his parents, Charles and Mildred, a few gray hairs during his 14 years of living at home. Ken was a bit of a rascal. Over the last few days his family have had the privilege of listening to many stories of Ken and his “partner in crime”, Darryl Kimley and their trouble with the law or mischief they created in the Cardston area.
In Ken’s younger years he travelled the rodeo circuit as a pro bareback bronc rider where he was lucky enough to stumble across a beautiful Stampede Indian Princess, Joyce McDougall. Joyce was not an easy pursuit but Kenny was not letting this gal go. Kenny courted Joyce until she finally gave in and agreed to marry him. After they married they lived in Cardston for a few years and later settled outside of Fort Macleod where they raised their two boys Shawn and Robin.
Rodeo and livestock were both Joyce and Kenny’s passion. They chose to put their energy and countless hours at the Fort Macleod Agriplex to assist with the clean-up of the old Midnight Stadium Rodeo Grounds. With the exceptional group of people on the board at that time they all worked hard for the amazing building that stands there today. The Luthers established life-long relationships with great friends and families to create a facility for many to enjoy.
Gramps (Ken), adored his four grandchildren. In his eyes they could do no wrong and the more mischievous his grandchildren were, the better! We believe it was because they reminded him of himself. Gramps did his best to never miss a sporting event. You could always find him and Grandma Joy in a shady cool spot on the field or high up on the bleachers in the gym.
Ken was an avid outdoorsman and an exceptional tradesman. He always had the time to teach anyone interested in his trade, welding. He loved camping, fishing, hunting and quadding. In his last few years you could always find Kenny on hot summer’s day out on the lake in his fishing boat trolling for pike or walleye.
Kenny is survived by his loving wife, Joyce; his son Robin (Ashley); grandchildren Tess, Tristan, Nathan and Justice; brother Rod (Wendy); sister Twinkie (Jean); brother from another mother Darryl (Rouda); sister-in-law May (Mel); sister-in-law Tootsie, brother-in-law Norman, and several nieces and nephews. Ken was predeceased by his parents Charles and Mildred Luther and son Shawn Luther.
Dad, Gramps, Kenny, Ken will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. He always made the time to say a quick warm hello but more so appreciated a long visit since he was never in a hurry.
In lieu of food and flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Community Support Beds at Fort Macleod Health Centre.
