April 23, 1940 — Aug. 18, 2023
On Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, Allan Raymond Orr, a man of exemplary trust in our Heavenly Father, passed away at the age of 83, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Allan was born on April 23, 1940, in Macleod, the third child of Sidney and Annie Laretta (Miller) Orr. He served a mission in Alabama for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After studying Agricultural Mechanics at the Calgary Technical Institute, he met and then married Sharlene Louise Henrie on Nov. 7, 1964, in the Cardston temple. This was the best decision and greatest blessing of his life.
Together they raised three girls and four boys. They served in the temple for 20 years, and 5 1/2 years as missionaries in Brocket. Allan was a man of integrity. He lived a life of unfailing faithfulness to his wife, family, and to God. He was someone of courage, creativity, and talent. He taught us to work and play hard. He was silly, sarcastic, and good to the core. He was ingenious, optimistic, and persevering no matter what life threw at him. He pursued a variety of business opportunities including farming, cattle ranching, worm farming, land development, irrigation, stone manufacturing, and an RV park. Allan took great pride in his yard, garden, and trees, and found great joy in sharing these with family and friends.
Allan was preceded in death by his father and mother, and both sister and brother-in-law Belva and Robert Patterson. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sharlene of 58 years; his children, Janice (Brent) Taylor, James (Janelle) Orr, Karen (Boyd) Davies, Daina (Alan) Gottenbos, Benjamin (Kristi) Orr, Darnell (Ashley) Orr, Brennan (Hannah) Orr; his siblings Audrey (Victor) Burton, Ruth (Richard) Cypher, Daniel (Dawne) Orr, and Monty (Ronalee) Orr; as well as 38 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and numerous extended family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 643 20th Street, Fort Macleod.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Allan’s memory can be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, No. 300, 1620 29th St. N.W., Calgary, Alta. T2N 4L7, or the Missionary Fund Fort Macleod Ward, P.O. Box 130, Fort Macleod, Alta. T0L 0Z0.
