F.P. Walshe Flyers fourth in own hoop tourney

F.P. Walshe Flyers hosted six other high school boys basketball teams on the weekend in the annual Blue and White tournament.

The Flyers had a win and a loss to place fourth.

In opening round action Friday, Catholic Central Cougars JV beat Livingstone Sabres 73-64; St. Mike’s Dragons beat Picture Butte Kings 94-58; and Chinook Cougars JV beat Noble Central Blades 105-30.

The schedule put the host Flyers into the A side semifinals on Saturday morning.

F.P. Walshe took on Catholic Central Cougars junior varsity team, who beat Livingstone Sabres 73-64 in their first round match Friday.

Catholic Central started strong and were in front of the Flyers 62-14 at halftime on their way to a 104-38 victory.

Hudson Bare Shin Bone scored 14 points for F.P. Walshe, Daniel Boot had 11 and Logan Boot and scored 10.

David Hearn had two points for the Flyers and Jan Borras had one.

The win sent Catholic Central to the tournament championship game where they would face the winner of a semifinal playoff featuring St. Mike’s Dragons and Chinook Coyotes JV.

The loss relegated the Flyers to the third-place playoff against St. Mike’s Dragons, who lost 73-63 to Chinook Coyotes in the other semifinal game.

Dragons 91 Flyers 45

St. Mike’s Dragons torched the Flyers 91-45 to claim third place in the tournament.

Logan Boot, Daniel Boot and Kingston Alexander each scored nine points for the Flyers.

Knowlee Traspe scored five points for F.P. Walshe, Teran Broderson had four, Hudson Bare Shin Bone had three and David Hearn, Payton Provost and Romain Magnin each had two.

Chinook Coyotes and Catholic Central Cougars met in the championship on Saturday night.

On the other side of the tournament, Livingstone beat Picture Butte 65-47 and Noble Central 85-61, while Picture Butte beat Noble Central 80-67.

Their two wins gave Livingstone the consolation title.
