Gordie MacKeeman bringing high-octane show to Empress

Award-winning Canadian fiddling wizard Gordie MacKeeman and His Rhythm Boys are bringing a fun, high-octane performance to the Empress on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 7:30 p.m., the fifth show in the 2023-’24 Centre Stage Concert Series.

MacKeeman, who originally hails from Nova Scotia but is now located in Prince Edward Island, heads up this Maritime roots quartet featuring all-star pickers and singers, playing everything from down-home country to reckless rockabilly to intricate bluegrass.

A man with a mischievous musical sense of humor, MacKeeman is also the elastic legged band leader nicknamed “Crazylegs” who, in addition to fiddling and singing, simultaneously performs his unique blend of Canadian clogging and step dancing.

MacKeeman plays with joyful abandonment, and paired with his frenzied, frenetic footwork, regularly creates new fans at festivals across Europe, the UK, Australia and the US.

The Boys are Peter Cann on vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar and 12 string guitar; Jason Burbine on vocals, drums, percussion, bass and guitar; and Thomas Webb on vocals, acoustic guitar, steel guitar, and banjo.

MacKeeman and the Boys have a reputation as festival highlights time and time again.

Since their inception, they have collected a mantle full of awards and recognitions.

Their latest, fourth album, Dreamland, has captured the versatility the group has to offer while showcasing their expansive talents.

MacKeeman has also recently self-released an album for kids and families, Folk for Little Folk.

The other albums are Laugh, Dance, and Sing; Pickin’ n Click’n; and the self-titled Gordie MacKeeman and His Rhythm Boys.

While their records are tremendous, it’s MacKeeman and the Boys’ exhilarating live show that keeps people coming back time and time again.

Tickets are available at macleodempress.com, by calling 403-553-4404 or at the Box Office on Main Street.

Up-coming Centre Stage Series concerts:
