O’Sullivan, Reginald Raymond

reg osullivan

June 9, 1935 — Nov. 1, 2024

Reg O’Sullivan passed away peacefully with family by his side on Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, at the age of 89 years.

Reg was born in Shaughnessy, Alta. on June 9, 1935, to John and Helen O’Sullivan and resided in Fort Macleod from a young age.

Reg married Jean Walker on Jan. 11, 1955, and celebrated 65 years of marriage. They had six children and raised them in Fort Macleod.

Alongside his wife Jean (the real boss) and throughout the years, their children successfully ran Reg O’Sullivan Construction Ltd. for 50-plus years. Reg was dedicated to the business and customers. He was proud to provide exceptional service and quality of work, whether it was forming basements, finishing driveways, floors, sidewalks, windmills and what he loved to do — tearing down stuff. The concrete plant supplied the highest quality of concrete in southern Alberta.

The new owners who purchased the business in 2022 honoured Reg and Jean’s legacy by keeping the O’Sullivan name, now O’Sullivan’s Concrete Ltd., which Reg so appreciated with a grin from ear to ear.

Reg was an accomplished athlete in boxing, hockey, baseball and occasionally golf until he ran out of clubs to throw. Reg was generous with his time and spent many hours coaching kids at the rink and ball field. He was always involved with fund-raising and volunteering to help kids in sports.

Together Reg and Jean shared a love of horses and spent hours riding together and with their kids. The dance floor was another passion of Mom and Dad’s, and boy did they have the moves. They loved hosting family and friends in their home for special occasions.

Reg was affectionately known by his family and friends as Dad, Father, Gramps, Papa Dodo, Reggie, and Uncle Bunny. At times, Reg referred to himself as Robert Redford — one of his favourite actors.

Reg is survived by his children: Cindy, Darcy, Kelly (Linda), Randy and Sandy; 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Reg was predeceased by his loving wife Jean; son Wade; son-in-law Dennis; his parents John and Helen; and siblings Roy, Slack, Gary, Jack, Marvin, Betty and Butch.

Reg will be missed, and we are comforted to know that he is reunited with his Sweetheart.

Love you Dad — forever in our hearts.

The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to Fort Macleod Extendicare, 654 29th St., P.O. Box 189, Fort Macleod, T0L 0Z0.

Celebration of life service to be announced.
