Walshe Service Club to conduct food drive

The F.P. Walshe Service Club intends to give the local food bank a boost in time for Thanksgiving.

Students from the school will carry out a food drive on Saturday, Sept. 28 to collect non-perishable food items for the Salvation Army food bank.

“We’ll try to kick off our service club by having something meaningful to do,” said Rick Bullock, a teacher at F.P. Walshe school and founder of the service club.

“My hope is that because we know how important it is for youth to serve, in terms of their sense of well-being, that the community will support an opportunity to serve. That’s the dream.”

Students will deliver small blue bags to Fort Macleod homes on Wednesday, Sept. 25 with instructions inside.

The crew will then go door-to-door from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, Sept. 28 to collect any bags that have been filled.

“People who would like to donate can leave the bags on their doorstep on Saturday morning prior to nine o’clock” Bullock said.

“Hopefully we get a few bags filled.”

Volunteer drivers are needed to transport the students and the collected food.

The collected food will be returned to the front entrance of F.P. Walshe school for pick-up by the Salvation Army.

“They’re excited to have it,” Bullock said of the Salvation Army.

People can drop their filled bags at the front doors of F.P. Walshe school between 9 a.m. and 12 noon Saturday, Sept. 28 if they prefer.

Volunteers are welcome to help the students deliver and collect the food bags.
