Becky Housenga is the new president of the Fort Macleod and District Chamber of Commerce.
Fort Macleod and District Chamber of Commerce has added categories to an awards program that honours the community’s best and brightest businesses and individuals.
New this year is Junior Citizen of the Year and Large Business Award.
The deadline for nominations, to be submitted in a sealed envelope to the Chamber office on Main Street or P.O. Box 178, Fort Macleod, T0L 0Z0, is Saturday, Sept. 15.
People are urged to include supporting information with their nominations.
The Chamber will host its awards gala on Saturday, Oct. 15.
Topping the list of award categories is Citizen of the Year, which is presented to an individual who embodies the spirit of community co-operation and generosity through volunteer service.
The new Junior citizen of the Year Award goes to a Fort Macleod and district resident who serves the community through volunteerism.
The new Large Business Award goes to a business with 20 or more employees that shows outstanding customer service and community spirit and support.
The Community Enhancement Award goes to a business, organization or individual who has shown outstanding community spirit and support.
The Small Business Award is presented to a business with one to five employees that shows outstanding community spirit, support and customer service.
The Customer Service Award is presented to a business that is dedicated to exceeding customer expectations, delivering industry leading standards of service and are creative and innovative with customer experience.
The Employee Service Award goes to an outstanding individual, team or employee who has presented an excellent ongoing level of customer service.
The Agricultural Business Award recognizes a business that promotes local, natural resources in a sustainable way.
The Chamber recognizes a business that is operated out of a residence successfully and benefits the community with the Home-Based Business Award. Nominees must have a current business licence from the Town of Fort Macleod.
A business that is just starting out and has demonstrated “notable” achievements will be recognized with the New Business Award.
The Chamber of Commerce also presents the Outstanding Business Award, which goes to a business that is nominated in one of the other categories.
Award recipients in 2016 were Cathie Harris, Citizen of the Year; Bloem Floral Designs, Outstanding Business; Valley Custom Meats, Small Business Award; Next Home and Garden, Customer Service Award; Forma Steel/Structural Truss, Community Enhancement Award; Mackenzie Smith of Forma Steel/Structural Truss, Employee Service Award; MoBoots Ag Mechanics, Agricultural Business Award; Homestead Bakeshop, New Business Award; and Crazy Stitch, Home-Based Business Award.
