Fort Macleod Mavericks battled to a second-place finish in their own weekend U9 hockey tournament.
The Mavericks hosted seven other teams in the three-day Southern Showdown.
The Mavericks were in Pool A with Raymond Knights, Cochrane Hawks and Foothills Flyers.
Pool B was made up of Okotoks Roughnecks, Cardston Thunder, Airdrie Lightning and Kainai Chiefs.

The Mavericks drew a formidable opponent for their first game of round-robin and dropped a 12-2 decision Friday afternoon to Raymond Knights.
The Knights got out to a 2-1 led in the first period but then scored five straight goals in the second to put the game out of reach.
Rhett Roelofsen and Kade DeKok scored for Fort Macleod and Joel Van Hierden and Caleb Bredeweg each picked up an assist.

A good night’s sleep made all the difference as the Mavericks walloped Foothills Flyers 21-1 on Saturday morning.
The Mavericks took a 10-0 lead in the first period and were in front by 12 goals before the Flyers got their only goal early in the second period.
Kade DeKok had six goals and one assist for the Mavericks, Rhett Roelofsen and Caleb Bredeweg each had three goals and an assist.
Jack Vanee had a hat trick, Joel Van Hierden had two goals and an assist and Leo Giesbrecht scored twice for Fort Macleod.
Nazar Makukh and Emma Chester each had a goal and an assist for the Mavericks, Lukas Brussee had two assists and Nixon Grisnich and Teagan Vandervalk each had one helper.

The Mavericks closed out round-robin Saturday afternoon with a 3-3 tie with Cochrane Ice Hawks.
All the scoring came in the first period with Cochrane rallying from a one-goal deficit to tie the game 3-3.
Kade DeKok scored twice for the Mavericks and Leo Giesbrecht had a goal and an assist.
Cashton Peterson and Lukas Brussee each picked up an assist on Fort Macleod goals.
Mavericks 4 Lightning 2
Their 1-1-1 record put the Mavericks second in their pool and set up a semifinal game against Airdrie Lightning, who went 3-0 to finish first in Pool B.
The Mavericks overcame a 2-1 deficit Sunday morning to edge the Lightning 4-2 and advance to the championship game.
The Mavericks opened the scoring but Airdrie scored twice to take the lead.
The Mavericks tied the game late in the first and added two goals in the second on their way to a 4-2 victory.
Kade DeKok scored a natural hat trick to spark the Fort Macleod attack and Leo Giesbrecht had the other Mavericks goal.
Jack Vanee had an assist on DeKok’s first goal.
In the other semifinal game, Raymond blanked Cardston Thunder 12-0 to reach the final.

After a short break, the Mavericks returned to the ice to face the powerful Raymond Knights in the final.
The Knights blanked the Mavericks to win the tournament championship.
