Fort Macleod Royals take three from Cranbrook Bandits

Fort Macleod Royals were solid in three weekend games at Westwinds Stadium.

The Cranbrook Bandits came to town looking to steal three wins from the American Legion baseball squad but went home empty-handed.

The Royals beat the Bandits 7-3 on Friday night, and then swept both ends of Saturday’s doubleheader by scores of 12-6 and 15-5.

The Royals are off to Billings Mont. this week for a tournament from June 11-14.

Their next home action is Thursday, June 18 when they host Lethbridge Lakers in a doubleheader that gets under way at 4 p.m.

Royals 7 Bandits 3

Cashe Kropinak hit a double and a single Friday night to drive in four runs and help power the Royals to a 7-3 win over the Bandits.

Cranbrook took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first but the Royals fought back to lead 5-2 after four.

The Bandits got a run in the fifth but Fort Macleod added two more in the sixth to close out the 7-3 win.

Easton Wright pitched four innings for the Royals, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out eight batters.

Nixon Strangway pitched three innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks with one strikeout.

Strangway helped out on offence as he went 2-for-3 and scored two runs.

Finn Mackintosh went 2-for-3, Beau Beler had a double and Bryden Markowski also had a single.

Royals 12 Bandits 6

The Royals doubled the Bandits 12-6 on Saturday as Easton Wright went 3-for-4 with a double, six RBI and two runs, and Cal Schmid went 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs.

Fort Macleod scored two in the first inning but the Bandits tied it in the third.

The Royals scored three in the bottom of the third, four in the fifth and added another three in the sixth to secure the win.

Kropinak went 2-for-3 with a double and scored two runs, Nathan Coast went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs and Strangway, Zack Wright and Ty Godlonton also had hits.

Kaiden Lee was on the mound for 5 1/3 innings for the Royals, giving up one run on three hits and three walks with eight strikeouts.

Nash Jones pitched an inning, allowing two runs with three walks and one strikeout, and Mackintosh gave up two runs on one hit and two walks.

Royals 15 Bandits 5

In the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday, Zack Wright went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and two runs as the Royals needed just five innings to dispose of the Bandits 15-5.

Cranbrook led 5-3 in the second inning when Fort Macleod exploded for seven runs to take control.

The Royals added runs in each of the third and fourth innings before scoring three more in the fifth to end the game on the 10-run mercy rule.

Schmid went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs and Easton Wright went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

Kropinak, Jones, Beler, Coast, Mackintosh, Cook and Godlonton also had hits.
