The F.P. Walshe Flyers went undefeated to claim the championship of a junior high A boys basketball tournament at Pincher Creek on Dec. 19-20.
The Flyers beat St. Joseph’s Saints, Matthew Halton Hawks and Livingstone Sabres to claim the title of the tournament hosted by the Hawks.
The Flyers are Ryder Peterson, Gabe Traspe, McKye Schaffer, Logan Foote, Kyle Gillingham, Matthew McNab, Roper Peterson, Taycen English, Dorian McDougall, Nathan Gurney, Thatcher Gouchie, Pryce Schneider and Nate Poytress.
Flyers 52 Saints 16
The Flyers opened the tournament with a 52-16 win over St. Joseph’s Saints.
Gabe Traspe led the Flyers scoring with 12 points and Taycen English had 10.
Ryder Peterson scored eight points for the Flyers, McKye Schaffer and Nate Poytress each had six, Logan Foote and Roper Peterson had four apiece and Nathan Gurney had two.
Flyers 66 Hawks 37
In their second game of the day the Flyers handled the host Matthew Halton Hawks 66-37.
Gabe Traspe was top scorer for the Flyers with 26 points.
Ryder Peterson scored 15 points for F.P. Walshe and Taycen English had 11.
Dorian McDougall and Nate Poytress had six points apiece and Roper Peterson had two.
Flyers 48 Sabres 36
The win over Matthew Halton advanced the Flyers to the tournament championship game against Livingstone Sabres from Lundbreck.
The Sabres had advanced to the championship game by defeating Spring Glen Panthers and Willow Creek Composite Cobras.
The Flyers prevailed 48-36 in the battle of the tournament’s undefeated teams.
Roper Peterson scored 13 points to lead the Flyers attack and Ryder Peterson also hit double digits with 10 points.
Gabe Traspe scored eight for the Flyers, Nathan Gurney had six, Taycen English had four, Dorian McDougall had three and McKye Schaffer and Nate Poytress scored two apiece.
