Festivities on tap for Canada Day

There are plenty of ways to celebrate the country’s birthday tomorrow.

Canada Day kicks off on Wednesday, July 1 with a pancake breakfast served by the Lions Club from 9-11:30 a.m. at the Fort Macleod Curling Club.

Admission to the pancake breakfast is by donation of cash or a non-perishable food item for the Fort Macleod Food Bank.

The Fort Museum opens at 9 a.m. Wednesday for a full day of Canada Day programming.

Admission is free all day.

The Southern Alberta Horse Artillery will give a demonstration of cannon and rifles used in 1886 at 10:15 a.m.

Canada Day opening ceremonies get under way at 11 a.m., including raising the flag and the inspection of the museum’s own Mounted Patrol

The Mounted Patrol wil proceed to the arena following the opening ceremonies for the 2026 debut Musical Ride at 11:50 a.m.

From 11:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., people will be able to enjoy a special Canada Day cake along with a barbecue.

The Fort Museum will also offer face-painting from 12 noon to 2:30 p.m., and First Nations drumming and dancing at 12:30 p.m.

Musical Ride performances will take place at 2 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.

The Southern Alberta Horse Artillery returns with cannon and rifle demonstrations at 2:40 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The dramatic play March of the Red Coats will be performed at 3:50 p.m.

Granum Canada Day

Granum residents get their celebration under way with breakfast at the Drop-In Centre from 8-10 a.m. Admission is by donation.

The Canada Day Show ‘n’ Shine runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Lansdowne Street, with a parade of cars following.

A town-wide historical scavenger hunt gets under way at 9 a.m., with information posted around the community. The hunt continues until 2 p.m.

A market gets under way at 10 a.m. at the Recreation Centre and continues until 4 p.m.

Lunch will be available at the Drop-In Centre from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Phil Still will offer horse and carriage rides from 2:30-4:45 p.m. at the park, with Beach Time running during the same period.

The A’sitapiiksi Pow Wow Club will perform First Nations dancing at 3:30 p.m., followed at 4 p.m. by live music with Train Wreck at the Homesteader.

The official Canada Day cake-cutting ceremony and unveiling of the time capsule is at 4:45 p.m. at the Homesteader.

Beef on a bun will be served from 5-7 p.m. at the Homesteader.

The annual Granum parade gets under way at 7:30 p.m., with entries marshalling at the school on Second Avenue.

The celebration ends with the fireworks show at dusk, roughly around at 11 p.m.
