Three strong games powered the F.P. Walshe Flyers to the championship of a weekend junior high A boys basketball tournament at Lundbreck.
The Flyers won all three games by decisive margins to win their second tournament title of the season.
The Flyers play their last regular season game Wednesday and head to Claresholm on Saturday for the post-season tournament.
F.P. Walshe will host the A boys zone playoff tournament later this month.
The Flyers were in Pool B to start the tournament with Spring Glen Panthers and Crowsnest Composite Panthers.
Pool A was made up of Livingstone Sabres, Matthew Halton Hawks and Willow Creek Composite Cobras from Claresholm.
Flyers 74 Panthers 20
The Flyers opened the tournament Friday with a 74-20 win over Spring Glen Panthers.
The Flyers opened a 26-8 lead in the first quarter and were in front 38-12 at halftime.
Thatcher Gouchie and Logan Foote each had 14 points for the Flyers and Nathan Gurney and Roper Peterson each had 10.
Ryder Peterson, Taycen English and Gabe Traspe each had six points, Dorian McDougall had four and Nate Poytress and Kyle Gillingham had two apiece.
Jack Fallon was top scorer for Spring Glen with eight points.
Flyers 85 Panthers 24
In their second round-robin game Friday the Flyers sailed to an 85-24 win over Crowsnest Composite Panthers.
The Panthers jumped out to a 17-15 lead in the first quarter, but the Flyers came to life in the second and pulled in front 38-19.
F.P. Walshe outscored the Panthers 20-3 in the third quarter on their way to the 85-24 win.
Gabe Traspe was the game’s top gun as he scored 28 points for the Flyers.
Nate Poytress scored 14 for the Flyers, Ryder Peterson had 13 and Roper Peterson scored 11.
Dorian McDougall scored nine points for the Flyers, Nathan Gurney had four, and Taycen English, Pryce Schneider and Logan Foote each had two points.
The victory put the Flyers in first place in Pool B, which set up a meeting in the tournament final against Pool A leader Livingstone Sabres.
Flyers 94 Sabres 68
The Flyers took the early lead on Saturday night and cruised to a 94-68 win over the host Sabres to claim the tournament championship.
F.P. Walshe went up 24-18 in the first quarter and led 43-35 at halftime.
A strong third quarter saw the Flyers outscore the Sabres 24-13 to lead 67-48 going into the fourth quarter on their way to the 94-68 win.
Roper Peterson poured in 39 points for the Flyers and Gabe Traspe scored 29.
Taycen English scored eight points for F.P. Walshe, Dorian McDougall had six, Nate Poytress had five, Ryder Peterson had three, and Logan Foote had two.
