Grand opening planned for PEAKS expansion

Planning is under way to celebrate the completion of a $5.7 million expansion of PEAKS Collegiate Campus in the Crowsnest Pass.

Livingstone Range School Board learned last week the grand opening of the completed project is in September.

“It is really taking shape,” superintendent Sean Beaton said. “It is dramatic, the changes that are going on.”

Beaton provided trustees with an update on the PEAKS project during their May 25 meeting at the G.R. Davis Administration Building in Fort Macleod.

The project includes a 488 square meter addition of contemporary programming space and a 106.5 square meter dormitory addition, alongside the existing building.

The project is fully funded by the provincial government through its collegiate program.

The grand opening is set for Tuesday, Sept. 15 with a ceremony at 10:30 a.m., followed by tours and other activities.

Livingstone Range will invite government officials, stakeholders, contractors, the architect, Indigenous leaders, municipal officials and more.

“We anticipate that construction will be finished at the beginning of July.’ Beaton said.

PEAKS Collegiate Campus for Environmental Science provides students with career-connected educational pathways through innovative partnerships between Livingstone Range School Division, Lethbridge Polytechnic, and industry partners.

PEAKS Campus is also home to year-round place-based experiential programming as well as Livingstone Range School Division’s summer education program FACES, which is open to high school students from across Alberta.
